Every now and then 4chan has a hand in something good. And today, well, this month, rather, is one of those times. The imageboard site is responsible for one of my favorite new memes, an exploitable meme format that involves a seriously hideous Zoomer hairstyle, famous actors and characters, and a whole lot of painful Zoomer slang.
While both Zoomer 'dos and Zoomer slang are pretty cringe, when they're incorporated into these memes we rather like them. The memes first started popping up in May of 2021, when 4chan users began uploading images of kids with 'Broccoli Hair,' also known as 'Zoomer Perm.' Neither term is particularly flattering, and that reflects the general consensus of the imageboard site. Users went to town roasting the style, but it wasn't until October of that year that people began photoshopping it onto heads where they most certainly don't belong.
While the meme gained some minor popularity in April of 2022, it wasn't until May that it was highkey…poppin' off? I don't know what I'm saying. But I don't know what these memes are saying, either. There's something about the trinity of people or characters, like Patrick Bateman, zoomerang, and the hairdo that make for a particularly funny meme - one that nearly rivals 'It's Morbin' Time'.
